Refelection
The type of my personal artifact will be private. Because it will be discussed and revealed in the essay, in the essay I will be declaring the identity of my essay and also discuss my private life. The precious object of my life and my family. My personal artifact is the family’s jewelry “pearl”. The entire essay will be focused on one personal object which makes the essay a personal artifact essay. What is exciting for me to write this assignment was to write about something that is personal to you and your family in our everyday life. I wrote about my family’s precious pearls because I thought of them as a kind of heritage in my family. I realized that it was valuable when I took a deeper look at the pearl because of this artifact essay. This personal artifact essay made me realize the importance of the pearl. After that I went to discuss it with my grandmother who I used to call Nana my grandmother and she told me the history of the pearl. So I want to tell the story about a personal artifact of my life that I have failed to notice for so many years and learned from it, while explaining its importance in my personal artifact essay.
The process of choosing my personal artifact essay was kind of a little complicated. Because I have to call my grandmother and my elder sisters to learn more about the pearls. My grandmother played a crucial role in this assignment which was helpful for me. I made my decision to write about that pearl after having a long discussion with my grandmother and writing my artifact essay.
The personal artifact essay assignment was great and amazing because it helped me to learn more about the history of my family’s precious pearls. Each activity in this class helped me to write this artifact essay, such as a discussion board, homework and the journal entry. My audience for this assignment will be my professor because she will be the one reading and grading the paper and give us feedback. Another audience will be my classmate peer review after the first draft which helps me to correct and adjust my essay. In this class I would like to improve my writing still and be able to do a research paper.
Essay
A personal artifact is an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest. As all people, everybody has a precious object in their life that holds dear to their heart, with a cultural and historical meaning to them. For me the precious object that I hold dear to my heart is my family pearl, which symbolizes my ancestor, my culture and tradition. The pearl in question is a goldy pearl necklace small, around, creamy color and with a shiny pink pearl in between. The necklace lasts for ages, I got it from my grandmother and we use it during the holidays like Ramadan and Eid mubarak. These are the special holidays where my sister and i use the pearl to dress up and decorate their outfits. Every girl wanted to be the prettiest in their family during the holiday. When I was discussing with my nana about the pearl necklace, I was able to find in her voice that she is proud to have the necklace. My personal artifact holds the pride, dignity and the history of my family alive. Also it links the generations together and remembers each other.
In those days wearing the pearl necklace felt very special and extraordinary, because you feel some kind of positive energy around yourself. See like all eyes are on you that day, it’s amazing.
The tradition and culture start from many years ago, from my ancestors. My great great great grandmother gave it to my grandmother as heritage and also a reminder for the family. Every time my nana wore the necklace, she wore it with happiness and with a big smile on her face. I remember like yesterday, when she wore the necklace she held it around her neck and lost in her mind with a smiling face. It was easy for me to choose this artifact because I knew a lot about the pearl necklace and my nana is still alive. I had a chance to call her and discuss more about it.
The artifact is important to me personally and culturally, because my culture is demonstrated through that pearl necklace. The value that I believe play a very important role in my life. These values have influenced my family and I positively. However, the cultural values educate us, enforce love, affection and tradition between each other. Unfortunately, I don’t have any picture of the pearl, but it looks like this. I hope this image is going to be helpful for you.
In conclusion the artifact is not only an object, but it also tells the story of the family such as tradition, culture and history. An artifact is a kind of heritage in a family which leads the family together from generation to generation.
